Hello, my friends.
Next Saturday I am hosting Friendsgiving for me and 6 of my besties. Since I am not hosting nor cooking for actual Thanksgiving, I’m leaving that to the professionals (my uncle), this is MY big day. Last week I made a mood board, and this week I started nailing down the menu. So let me run you through my game plan thus far.
Apps
Thanksgiving is not about the appetizers. The appetizers are just an edible activity to keep your guests entertained long enough until the real food is ready. It’s like giving an iPad to a baby at a restaurant. Here are my main 3 criteria for the perfect Thanksgiving appetizer.
Can be prepared in advance.
Served chilled or at room temperature / does not require the use of the oven or the stove.
Not too heavy or filling.
My appetizer menu this year will include:
Shrimp cocktail with a spicy horseradish cocktail sauce
Towers of grapes + martini tower
Whipped butter moment
(Tasteful) selection of cheeses
1 hard cheese: aged gouda
1 soft-ripened cheese: camembert
1 firm cheese: stilton
+ hard salami, something sweet, and bread
What I’m Wearing
The go-to Thanksgiving / Friendsgiving fit usually includes a flowy dress / flowy top, baggy sweater, baggy jeans, and comfy shoes. Anything form-fitting will be tucked away until the new year :). Everything is linked here <3.
What I’m Cooking
I ordered a turkey from The Meat Hook in Brooklyn, but I believe Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s started putting out turkeys this week if you’re starting to celebrate early as well! I will post a full turkey tutorial in my next newsletter, but for now: salad and sides.
